Chicago Code is the seasons big new crime show from Fox featuring Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) and Teresa Colvin (Jennifer Beals) The show is written by Shawn Ryan who knows a thing or three about corrupt cops. He wrote the Shield one of the most hard hitting shows about police corruption in recent years. The Shield also featured the machinations of local politicians and how their world of money and influence affects the world of the street cop.
From the pilot episode aired last night on Fox, looks like many of the same issues will be explored here. Although this being Chicago the politicians are dirtier—far dirtier. As evidenced by the Alderman Ronin Gibbons played by the fantastic Delroy Lindo.
The evidence is that this show is far more mainstream than the Shield. Time will tell if Fox have a competitor to the truly sensational Detroit -187 but this must be their hope. Jennifer Beals is shaping up as a major figure in the show with strong interpretation and acting. Clarke has a harder job because shaping and iconic male police lead in a genre that is so highly populated is no easy task. His energy and enthusiasm is to be admired however and if he can keep up with the frenetic pace of this show we just might be looking at a new prime time icon
