Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez star in Parker

Welcome to Palm Beach Florida Crimeziners, playground of the rich and famous and home for the latest Jason Statham crime romp Parker.

Parker is the creation of Crime writing genius Donald Westlake, a man renowned for ingenious plots and fast-talking dialogue. Westlake penned many awesome crime novels in his long career and a number of screen plays including The Grifters. Parker was written under Westlake’s Richard Stark pseudonym.

The hardboiled nature of the Parker books was balanced by Westlake’s lighter, more comedic John Dortmunder novels. Westlake admits the novel that became the first Dortmunder story The Hot Rock, was originally intended to be a straightforward Parker novel but “It kept turning funny,” and thus the comic flip-side of Parker was born.

There is no actor better suited to melding these two personas than Crimezine favorite Jason Statham of course.

In the new movie, due out January 25 2013, Statham plays Parker—a professional thief, who lives by the motto: Don’t steal from people who can’t afford it and don’t hurt people who don’t deserve it. But his crew double-crosses him.  They steal his cash, and leave him for dead. Big mistake.

Parker tracks his former associates to Palm Beach, Donning the disguise of a rich Texan, he takes on an unlikely partner, Leslie [Jennifer Lopez], a smart and ambitious lady who helps him, devise a masterful plan to get revenge on his erstwhile associates.
